Throughout her room, Kelly continued the theme with several empty glass drink bottles and antique frames lining her room.Įven though Kelly thought of the idea and did the majority of the work by herself, she advises other teenagers not to hesitate to ask her help if it is needed. Her pillows also match the comforter, keeping the cola theme in mind. The denim-colored comforter is printed with several different ads of the soft drink from different time periods and is dotted with the famed beverage bottles. One of the more focal elements in her room is her Coca-Cola inspired bed. The mural, painted over her pin-striped wallpaper, is accurate to an authentic 1950s-era advertisement, even with the motto "Refresh Yourself, Drink Coca-Cola" painted in yellow. Then, using a projected image as her stencil, Kelly hand painted an enormous mural of an antique Coca-Cola sign on her wall complete with exact red paint. Kelly lined a panel of Coca-Cola wallpaper along the top portion of half her room.
Taking a whole summer to complete her room, Kelly made her themed room precise to the idea of a Coca-Cola haven as well as to contrast against her black and white checkered floor. Her entire room is decked out with the popular soft drink in mind. For Kelly Flunker, a 14-year-old freshman at PK Yonge, her bright Coca-Cola themed room is as much as a reflection of her as it is for her love of Coca-Cola design. Sometimes a specific theme can work well for a teenager's bedroom. "Juxtaposition is powerful," Anna advises, pointing to her innovative idea of putting a plastic "Men's" bathroom sign she bought at Home Depot outside her door. Choose each item and carefully place it for purpose as well as for creativity, she says. One of the most important tips she advises every teenager is not to plan out the design of the room, just add pieces as the entire design comes along. Her room is not designed on renovation, but rather innovation. The sleek black electric violin and acoustic guitar complement her traditional white walls. Its dark purple, light purple, maroon and red recurring color scheme can be found in almost every aspect of her room from her colorful beta fish to her long, red feathered boas running down her window blinds.Īnna's room is about complementary design, rather than designing around one specific theme, she said. A four-colored motif accessorizes her room. Bland by most standards, Anna found dressing the white was more fun than anything else. The making of her room has been a four-year process. I shut the door and it's like my apartment." "It's my own space," Anna says, a senior at Buchholz High School.
Walk into her room and find yourself never wanting to leave, kind of how Anna feels. Look to the right and you'll see her red and brown beta fish in its vase-like tank placed next to two purple glass vases shaped like a man's upper body. Her sleek black electric violin and even sleeker-looking black acoustic guitar are hung vertically next to each other. Look to the left and you'll find a small ensemble of music instruments hanging on her wall. Every part of this teen's room has a trace of her inventiveness and of her personality. "And don't mix too many ideas into your room."įor Anna Sampson, what's inside her room is a ceiling covered with 700 CDs, a life-sized black and white half-smiling Elvis cutout and a shiny black electric violin hanging on the wall, among other things.Īnna's room is simple, uncluttered, yet unique. Other important tip Mandy suggests is to have some type of a plan before decorating a room, making sure to have a focal point in the room. Like people have workout equipment in their room." "A room should be for changing and sleeping," she says.
One of the most important tips Mandy offers other teenagers is to keep a bedroom free of unnecessary clutter. Taking one of the chopsticks, Mandy tied an orange ribbon to the ends of the utensil and hung her earrings from the newly dangling platform. One night her family ordered Chinese take-out. Her earring display is even inspired by her creativity. Mandy's creative spin for a bedroom is a collection of fun, cool-looking trinkets that nobody would have ever guessed to use. "You should go into your own personality and reflect yourself," Mandy says.
