Then, right click on it and choose "Add > Apps" to add all apps to the iPad you will need on this cart. Once your "Master" iPad is supervised, proceed through the setup steps on the iPad to get it to the home screen. This allows me to ensure all settings are to my liking for my "Master". When setting up my "Master" iPad I choose to "Show all steps" in the Setup Assistant.Choose your organization or set up a new organization.I do not check "Allow to pair with other computers" but set this to your liking. Make sure the "Supervise devices" box is checked.I use Meraki MDM, but I do not yet enroll the iPad so I will select "Configuration: Manual" and then "Server: Do not enroll in MDM".Use the "Prepare" button in AC2 to get your "Master" iPad into a supervised state.
This will factory restore the iPad so you have a fresh start as well as update iOS. If you are creating your "Master" from an existing iPad, right click on the iPad in AC2 and select "Restore". Use the "Update" button in AC2 to update iOS on the iPad if it is not updated out-of-box.
What I am able to accomplish is a full cart of new iPads with the exact same apps, settings, home screen layout, etc. I'll outline my steps below and hopefully this may help some of you.
I have managed to find a procedure which works, at least for my purposes, thanks to bits and pieces from many of the posts here and lots of trial and error. Good news is that you can apply a backup to a different device, modify the backup on that second device, and save it as another backup. If you need to make a different backup you'll need to grab a different device to do it. Keep in mind that you can only create one backup from a specific device. During the process to apply the blueprint you'll be prompted to restore and supervise devices.
However, it does seem to be ok to apply a backup from Device A and apply it to Device B, then save the Device B backup.Ģ) Prepare your device to a supervised stateģ) Install any or all applications that you need for your backupĤ) Apply application settings within the apps themselves if neededĥ) Apply desired settings and restrictions as neededħ) Build your blueprint (in no particular order): Modify device name and wallpaper as desired, add apps, add profiling, and set your blueprint to restore from the backup that you created.Īpplying a blueprint that has supervised backup incorporated into it to an unsupervised device will make all subsequent devices supervised, with all of your settings intact. So if you need 7 different backups for seven different roles you will need to create them from 7 different devices. Backup 002 will then replace Backup 001 in your list of backups because they came from the same device, and it doesn't matter if you change the name or do it on a different date. Then I use that same device to create another backup, Backup 002. For example, lets say I create a supervised backup called Backup 001 from a device. ONE CATCH: I have found that a backup is tied to a specific device.
Once that backup is supervised you can re-apply it to other devices by putting it in your blueprint(s) and they will be supervised as well. However, this means preparing a device and then creating a whole new back up with all of the settings and app settings that you require. The solution I was able to find for this issue was to make sure that backup is supervised from the AC2. If you know for a fact its not possible any more I would also appreciate you telling me that bad news as well so I can stop hitting my head up against this computer ease be kind.I'm a bit fragile atm. It would seem that I can prepare an iPad either manually or via a blueprint but as soon as I restore from backup the device is no longer supervised! If you know of a way to make this work I will be most appreciative of your input. I really need to know whetherv2 has this functionality or no. Sadly I have not been able to do this with v2.
This worked just fine in Apple Configurator v1.x. My previous workflow involved supervising a master iPad, installing apps and profiles, rearranging all the apps into various groups and folders etc then backing up the master iPad and restoring that backup to all other supervised devices. Like everyone else I have been forced to Apple Configurator 2 through no choice of my own and now I am about ready to burst with frustration! Ok thats my vent.now onto my problem.
